Miriam: Daddy's birthday is coming up.
Daddy: Yes, that's right, Miriam.
Miriam: Can Miriam come to daddy's birthday too ?
Daddy: Of course you can, you will be the guest of honor.
Miriam: Can we go to the city ?
I am not sure where she got the birthday part from, but I think the city part is from me telling her last Friday that "Mommy is at her friend's birthday in the city."
Here is another funny one:
Miriam: What is that ?
Daddy: That's a USB stick.
Miriam: Can Miriam hold it ?
[I hand it over to her]
Miriam: Miriam's, not daddy's.
Daddy: "Miriam is going to see her teachers today"
Miriam: "And friends!"
Daddy: "Yes, Miriam is going to see her teachers and friends today"
Miriam: "Miriam's teachers... Not Owen's!"
"Not Owen's, Miriam's!"
As Miriam begins to talk more and more clearly and make her own sentences the pearls of wisdom are beginning to accumulate. She has learned the concept of something being broken, in the sense that the object is not performing the function Miri expects it to perform. Here is one conversation I had with her Saturday morning:
Miriam: "Ashley [our cat] is broken. Daddy fix!"
Daddy: "Why is Ashley broken ? She is perfectly fine"
Miriam: "Ashley is broken. Ashley doesn't say meow."
Here is another one after our visit to my dad's in Brooklyn. She couldn't open the porch gate on our way out:
Daddy: "Miriam, what did you do at grandpa's house?"
Miriam: "Grandpa's house is broken. Miriam couldn't open the door."
Miriam is helping her parents put the groceries away.
